What movie should I watch next?

I thought I would try something different and let you decide what I watch next in my Netflix queue. I've included a poll at the bottom of this post where you can vote from a list of five movies. Now if you don't know any of the movies listed I've included a link to each of their IMDB page, so you can learn more about them before you vote. If you do already know some of them, then feel free to vote for your favorite, vote at random, or vote for one you haven't seen. I look forward to seeing which movie gets the most votes.

The Boondock Saints - 1999

Description:
The Boondock Saints is a vigilante film starring Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and Willem Dafoe. Flanery and Reedus play twin brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus who become vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian mafia in self-defense. Dafoe is Agent Smecker of the FBI who is pursuing the MacManus brothers as they rid the city of Boston of crime.

My Thoughts:
I didn't really know much about this film before watching it. All I really knew was that it had a cult following and that it starred Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. I now understand why this has a cult following and I regret that it took me so long to watch it. This was a great film and anyone who loves action movies would enjoy this movie. It was a much different film than I expected. What I liked most was the flashback style of story telling. It reminded me of a scene from the movie Kick-Ass where you see how a warehouse full of thugs was actually dealt with. Something that also really surprised me about this film was the story. Usually I can get a sense of where the story is heading but what I thought would happen during this movie was wrong. Overall this film was a pleasant surprise and now I can't wait to watch the sequel.

What I Liked:
  • The Story
  • The Flashbacks
  • The Action
What I Didn't Like:
  • Nothing Really

Overall Rating: 9/10

First Review

The Artist (2011)

Description:
The Artist is a black and white silent film starring Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo. Jean Dujardin is George Valentin, a star of silent movies, who meets a young dancer named Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo). When sound is introduced to the movie industry it sends the careers of George Valentin and Peppy Miller in opposite directions.

My Thoughts:
I first heard of The Artist during the 2011 Oscar season when it was getting a lot of buzz because of how great it was. During that Oscar season it would go on to win 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Now that I have had a chance to watch it, I don't think it deserved all the praise it received.

Now don't get me wrong it was a great film but it wasn't Best Picture worthy. The acting throughout the film is fantastic considering it is a silent film and the actors have to display their emotion and feelings using only their body language. Jean Dujardin really was great and I think well deserving of his Oscar. The one problem I had with the film though was the film's story. I didn't hate the story but it felt like a standard love story with typical twists and turns. I wished the film had focused more on Dujardin's fall from stardom and the effects it had on him. Maybe the type of movie I was looking for wouldn't fit well with a silent film though.

Well these are just some of my thoughts as I don't want to go into too much detail. I would rather my reviews be spoiler free so that anyone reading that hasn't seen the film yet can still watch it and judge it for themselves. Thanks for reading and see you next time.

What I Liked:
  • The acting (Especially Jean Dujardin)
  • The production design
  • The musical score
  • Jack the Dog
What I didn't like:
  • The overall story
Rating: 8/10

Hello World!

Hello, my name is Josh and I am currently a student at West Chester University. When my ENG 320 professor told my class that we had to make a blog, the idea of reviewing things in my Netflix queue immediately popped into my head. Not only would this allow me to satisfy my class requirement but it would also help me empty my ever growing queue. So with this blog it is my intention to watch and review movies and TV shows in my queue and hopefully my reviews will help you decide what is worth watching on Netflix.

Now that you know what my blog is about, I thought I should go over a few details of how my blog will work. Originally my queue contained things I have yet to watch and things I have already watched that I really liked. To make it easier for me I decided to remove everything from my queue that I have already seen. I also went through Netflix and added anything to my queue that I haven't seen that piqued my interests. Now my queue is even longer than before but at least I won't run out of stuff to watch anytime soon. I guess that about covers everything and I hope whoever is reading this will come back soon when I have my first review up.
